What do medical assistants do?
-
Collect Vital Information
Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) are usually the first face that a patient sees when they come to a doctor’s office, clinic, or hospital. CMAs are responsible for getting the medical history of a patient, and collecting samples for any tests.
-
Assist with all aspects of a visit
CMAs must be prepared to assist in all aspects of a patient’s visit. This could include vaccinations, preparing for a procedure, or sending samples to a lab for testing.
-
Organize information & Schedule visits
At the end of a patient’s visit, CMAs ensure that new information is filed and that any follow-up visits have been scheduled for the patient.
“As a coach, it’s my responsibility to ensure that fellows I work with know that I’m here as a resource no matter what may come up in their life. My goal is to listen, support and help brainstorm solutions that keep a young person connected to the experience they envisioned, even when things get tough.

Decide Today to Support Your Future
Propel America fellow Klarissa was ready to think about what life looks like after high school graduation. She was making enough money to cover her family’s expenses as a parent of young children, but Klarissa wanted a future job where she could gain skills that would translate into a long-term career without taking on a large amount of debt to get there.
Propel provided coaching and answered questions every step of the way, knowing Klarissa was juggling a lot behind the scenes. This meant that she didn’t have to navigate the application process and first days of learning alone, and she able to complete the program with confidence.
