New Baton Rouge Workforce Training Partnership to Help Fill Gap in Healthcare

Propel America teams up with Rosebud Healthcare Training Academy to address the healthcare labor shortage impacting Louisiana patients

Baton Rouge - Propel America and Rosebud Healthcare and Training are pleased to announce the formation of a new partnership to equip young adults from underprivileged backgrounds in Louisiana with high-demand caregiver skills that can lead to upwardly-mobile jobs serving Louisiana residents.

The groups are collaborating to create a clear and supported pathway for Rosebud’s Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) students to transition into Propel America’s accelerated healthcare-focused workforce development programs.

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Rosebud and Propel will be holding an event, “Gateway to Healthcare,” designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities available in healthcare, and showcase the state-of-the-art simulation lab at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University.

“Propel America is proud to deepen our partnership with Louisiana-based organizations like Rosebud Healthcare and Training, whose commitment to high-quality nursing care and education aligns with our mission,” said Chad Rountree, Chief Executive Officer of Propel America, a national nonprofit that recruits and trains young people from low-income backgrounds for healthcare careers. “Together, we are expanding and strengthening the pipeline of young talent poised for career growth in healthcare—at a time when addressing the nation’s critical labor shortage has never been more urgent.”

The partnership will bolster each organizations’ recruitment efforts and career development. Rosebud will identify and refer qualified CNA students to Propel America’s fellowship programs, and collaborate on recruitment, marketing, and outreach efforts to engage prospective students in Propel America’s fellowship program. These activities may include jointly hosting welcome events, open houses, and application workshops.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Propel America to provide our top-performing CNA graduates a direct pipeline into Propel’s fellowship program, where they will gain access to tuition-free training, career coaching, college credits, and job placement opportunities in healthcare careers that align with their training,” said Vikki Lee, RN, CCHC, who is Founder, Principal, Chief Nurse Consultant, and Lead Instructor of Louisiana-based Rosebud Healthcare and Training.

Rosebud will ensure students have access to resources needed for successful participation in the Propel fellowship, and its students will benefit from Propel America’s healthcare-specific personalized mentorship, career coaching, and skills development.

Propel will conduct information sessions, workshops, and career readiness activities to help Rosebud students transition into the workforce, as well as mentorship and networking opportunities for Rosebud alumni so they can continue receiving guidance as they progress in their careers.

Many young adults experience obstacles to career advancement due to the lost wages, tuition costs, and debt associated with higher education. Through the Propel Fellowship program, enrollees begin working within 6-10 months, after receiving personalized career support from a Propel coach.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 1.8 million new healthcare jobs will be added to the US economy annually through 2032. Meanwhile, the country is facing a healthcare labor shortage of over 100,000 critical workers.
