A cohort of hard-working moms graduates in louisiana

On Saturday, March 4, 2023, proud families, friends, and the eight hard-working graduates of Propel America’s Fall 2022 Louisiana cohort gathered at the Independence Community Park public library in Baton Rouge to honor the class of newly certified medical assistants. After months of instructional coursework with Propel’s training partner National Louis University, durable skills training with their Success Coach Sydney Canfield, and in-person clinical skills-lab and an externship with Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health Services (FMOLHS), the group had made it to graduation day.

Coach Sydney shared remarks on the cohort, describing how they were at-first shy with one another back in the fall, and now share a special bond having supported each other to get to this point. Of the eight graduates, all of them are women, all of them are mothers, and all of them have persevered, as they now embark on their careers as medical assistants. Speaking to her fellow class of graduates, Marisa L. shared, “We have grown together. We worked so hard to get to this day. We pushed through all the challenges, having children and having full time jobs, and this achievement opens up so many doors.”

Another fellow speaker, Jlaie R. similarly encouraged her fellow graduates: “Wherever we will go, we will tackle problems with confidence. Thanks to Sydney and Jamie for all the encouraging words.”

It was all cheers, smiles, and laughter as the newly certified medical assistants posed for photos with their supporters and children, enjoyed cupcakes, and encouraged each other about their upcoming interviews for full-time roles. Amongst the attendees was Asha Johnson, the Director of Talent Strategy and DEI at FMOLHS, who has come to believe in Propel as a talent solution. Asha has encouraged this group of women at every step and is invested in their long-term growth as employees.

Congratulations to this class of Propel graduates who has pursued an alternative path to financial freedom for themselves and their families and proven what is possible through hard work. Look out for these medical assistants at clinics across the Baton Rouge area!
